Producers: Tina Pehme & Kim Roberts / Debra Beard & Hugh Beard (Force Four Films) Synopsis: After graduating from Montreal's McGill University in 1933 with a Ph.D. in Geology, John ("Jack") Williamson is offered a junior position with De Beers Consolidated Diamonds Mines in South Africa. While on a prospecting expedition for De Beers, Jack beings to develop his theory that somewhere in Tanganyika there has to be a huge pipe of diamond-bearing blue clay known as kimberlite. When Jack's request for additional funding is rejected by De Beers, he heads off on his own. Broke and with only the help of his two African assistants, Jack sacrifices everything for his dream; including losing the woman he loves. After years of searching Jack's dream comes to fruition when he finally strikes the kimberlite pipe, containing the world's largest diamond mine. Jack Williamson's story spans 25 years as he confronts disease, hunger, violence and frustration in the jungle, and greed, jealousy and betrayal in the boardrooms of the South African Diamond Industry. |
