JOEY ARESCO - Writer/Producer
Best known for his acting accomplishments (with over 60 film and television credits to his name - refer to IMDB for complete listing), Joey is also a Writer-Producer who has worked on countless projects over the years. While working in L.A. he initially came to the attention of an Executive at Universal with a spec Romantic-Comedy (he co-wrote) that resulted in a “pitch” and Development Deal with Director John Landis for a re-make of “My Fair Lady” (intended for Chevy Chase and Goldie Hawn): a re-teaming Universal was looking for after the success of the Chase-Hawn picture “Foul Play”. Joey wrote and was compensated on this un-produced project over the course of three extended treatments.
Several development deals followed for Joey with varying degrees of success. He
“pitched” an original divorce Comedy to writer Mitch Kapner (“The Whole Nine Yards”), entitled “Cahoots” which was optioned by Warner Bros. Kapner was signed to write a first draft, Joey cut a deal as a Co-Producer. Writer Allan Ball (“American Beauty”, “Six Feet Under”) was hired to write a second draft.
Soon after he Developed and optioned a Romantic-Comedy to the Finnegan-Pinchuk Co. (“Reality Bites”, “Northern Exposure”), as well as working with them on a Comedy-Crime series based on the novel, “Small Felonies”, that was put into Development at CBS. A pilot script was ordered.
In addition, Joey worked as VP of Development for Victor/Grais Productions where he managed projects entering Development at the company.
For the past ten years, Joey has lived in Vancouver and has recently become a Canadian Citizen. He has several projects in the works (including most actively):
“Sharking” by Brett Conrad. A Comedy-Crime feature. Brett is currently a writer on the new FX series, “Boys of Anarchy” and “Defying Gravity”. “Sharking” has been Optioned several times. Currently exploring re-tooling “Sharking” as a dark comedy cable series.
“Anonymous” by Brett Conrad. An Identiy-theft Thriller. Optioned by Kim Roberts and Tina Pehme.
“Crazy Like We Are” by Brett Conrad. A Romantic-Comedy in Development and under Option to Echo Lake Productions (“Away From Her”) with Oscar winning David S. Ward (“TheSting”), directing. Casting is under way. Also with David Ward directing, “The James Dean Garage Band”, written by David Ward.
“Spinning Chelsea” a Teen rock and roll Comedy, Love -Story by Joey Aresco and
Larry Koch. In Development and under Option with Sepia Films. Vic Sarin to Direct.
“Hellbent”, Horror Sci-Fi feature film written by Larry Koch and Joey Aresco. Currently under consideration with MGM. Also being considered as a series concept.
