Hugh and Debra Beard co-produced and co-executive produced the critically acclaimed six-hour dramatic miniseries "Human Cargo", starring Academy Award winner Kate Nelligan. Directed by Brad Turner, "Human Cargo" received a remarkable 17 Gemini nominations; winning seven top awards, including Best Picture. It was awarded the prestigious Peabody Award for "Significant and Meritorious Achievement in Broadcasting and Cable".
Their first feature film, directed by Bruce McDonald, "The Love Crimes of Gillian Guess", had its world theatrical premiere at the 2004 Toronto International Film Festival, and has since screened at the Berlin Film Festival, the Vancouver International Film Festival, Karlovy, Brisbane, Warsaw, and India Film Festivals, and the New York Museum of Modern Art Showcase. The film aired on City Television and the Sundance Channel.
Other drama productions include two Gemini-nominated "Jinnah On Crime" televisions movies for CBC, directed by Brad Turner, as well as the Gemini award winning "Murder Unveiled" filmed in India and Canada and directed by Vic Sarin
Hugh and Debra Beard are the producers and underwater photographers for the Kid's CBC preschool series "See the Sea".
